I use my Apollo 16 (silver) via Thunderbolt, but now I want to use it with a different computer via FireWire. Why is my Apollo 16 not recognized via FireWire?

Note: Reverting Apollo to FireWire connectivity is simplified under UAD v9.0.0 and later. For details, see "Revert to FireWire connectivity..." in the UAD Meter & Control Panel section of the UAD System Manual

For help reverting Apollo to FireWire connectivity under UAD v8.7 or lower, see below.

Q: I use my Apollo via Thunderbolt, but now I want to use it with a different computer via FireWire. Why is my Apollo not recognized via FireWire?

A: The FireWire ports of the Apollo are temporarily deactivated if Thunderbolt firmware is installed on the Apollo. If the Apollo was ever used via Thunderbolt, then the FireWire firmware will need to be reloaded before the computer will recognize the Apollo via FireWire.

Since the FireWire ports of the Apollo are temporarily deactivated when the Thunderbolt firmware is installed, the only way to downgrade the firmware and reactivate the FireWire ports is via a Thunderbolt connection. This means you will need to install a FireWire version of UAD software onto a Thunderbolt equipped Mac computer, connect the Apollo via Thunderbolt, and “downgrade” the firmware when prompted. Once the process is complete you will be able to connect the Apollo to your Mac or Windows computer via FireWire.

FireWire and Thunderbolt versions of UAD v8.7 and below software can be found in the Software Archives article.
