How to Update Your Computer's USB 3 Chipset Driver

On Windows 7 systems, it's important to make sure that your computer's USB 3 chipset driver is updated before installing the Apollo Twin USB software. Installing the Apollo Twin USB software before your USB 3 chipset drivers have been installed or updated can cause the Apollo Twin USB drivers not to be installed correctly. The exact method for downloading and installing USB 3 chipset drivers varies depending on the computer/motherboard manufacturer and USB 3 chipset manufacturer, but the general steps below outline the process for most systems.

1. Locate the model of your computer/motherboard. This info can be found by going to Start > Control Panel > System. The computer/motherboard manufacturer and model will be listed under "Manufacturer" and "Model" respectively.

2. Go to the computer/motherboard manufacturer's website and locate your computer/motherboard model. There will typically be a search bar on the manufacturer's website that allows you to quickly search for your computer/motherboard model.

3. On the product page for your computer/motherboard model, look for a "Downloads" section (sometimes called "Drivers & Downloads,” "Support & Downloads" or something similar).

4. In the Downloads section for your computer/motherboard, you will most likely be asked to select your Windows OS version from a drop down menu. If there is a "Download Type" option, select "Driver" or the equivalent option.

5. A list of available driver downloads will be displayed. Locate the USB 3 chipset driver, which will typically contain "USB 3.0 Driver" in the title, and download it.

6. Follow any listed directions on the computer/motherboard manufacturer's website for installing the driver. Most drivers are packaged with their own installers and are downloaded in .exe format. If this is the case, run the .exe file after the download finishes and follow the directions in the installer to complete the driver installation.

After your USB 3 chipset driver has been updated, you're ready to configure your system for use with Apollo Twin USB and install the Apollo Twin USB software. See the Required Settings and Installation articles below to get started:
