Important: After installing UAD software on Windows systems, Pro Tools will display an error the first time the program is launched. Follow the steps below to ensure all UAD plug-ins are ready for use:

Note: These steps are not required when running Windows 10 May 2019 Update (version 1903) or higher.

1. When Pro Tools is first launched, click "No" when Pro Tools displays a message indicating some UAD AAX plug-ins failed to load. This message can be safely dismissed.
2. After Pro Tools finishes loading, QUIT Pro Tools. The UAD plug-ins are now ready for use the next time Pro Tools is opened.

• Apollo Channel DSP Pairing allows bigger UAD plug-in chains on Console inputs by allocating fewer Virtual Channels. By default, fewer Virtual Channels are visible. To view previously-visible Virtual Channels (including original plug-ins and settings), increase the VIRTUAL CHANNELS value in Console Settings>Hardware Panel>Channel DSP Pairing. • Corrected DSP allocations for UA Audio Interfaces: – UAD DSP loads are now properly allocated with all Apollo and Arrow interface models. In UAD v9.9 and earlier versions, UAD DSP loads were under-allocated with these models which could result in unreported DSP overloads and audio artifacts. – When Apollo/Arrow sessions that were saved with UAD 9.9 (and lower) are subsequently opened in UAD v9.10 (and higher), the session may report higher UAD loads. If the prior session exceeds the corrected DSP allocations, the "DSP exceeded" dialog appears and any UAD plug-ins that cannot load are disabled. For related information,seeManaging DSP Resources.

Known Issue with earlier UAD Software and macOS Sierra

Note: The following issue does NOT occur whenUAD v9.1 (or higher) is installed before upgrading to macOS Sierra.

Symptom: Installing UAD v8.7 or earlier software onto a macOS Sierra system, or upgrading to macOS Sierra with earlier UAD software installed, may cause the system to fail on startup.

Solution: If the computer will not startup, start the computer in Safe mode by holding down the Shift key during startup, then run the Uninstall Universal Audio Software application located in /Applications/Universal Audio. After uninstalling, install v9.1 (or higher), or install/restore a previous version of macOS.

About Apollo Thunderbolt Software

• This release uses the PCIe protocol via Thunderbolt for all audio I/O stream processing. Because FireWire I/O drivers are not included, Thunderbolt must be used for Apollo’s connection to the computer.
• Important: Apollo Thunderbolt software disables the FireWire ports on Apollo and Apollo 16. After loading the required firmware contained in all UAD Thunderbolt software:
  • Apollo cannot be connected to the computer via FireWire
  • FireWire devices cannot be connected to the Apollo FireWire ports

UAD v8.0.1 Release Details

About This Release

• UAD v7.4.1 is a public beta release intended for Mac users running Avid Pro Tools 11.
• This Mac-only release supports all UAD-2 devices (UAD-2 PCIe cards, UAD-2 Satellite, Apollo, and Apollo 16).
• Qualified host applications and operating systems are unchanged since UAD v7.4.0.
• To install UAD AAX 64 support, check the "UAD Powered Plug-Ins for Pro Tools" option during installation. RTAS and AAX 64 plug-ins will both be installed.
• After installing UAD v7.4.1, sessions and presets created in previous versions of Pro Tools can be loaded and used immediately in Pro Tools 11. The transition is seamless.

• It has been determined that these issues only result when the critical “mach_kernel” OS X operating system file, which is exposed by 10.8.5 Supplemental Update 1.0, is missing from the OS prior to UAD installation.
• The UAD v7.3.0b (and higher) Mac installers check for the existence of this system file prior to UAD installation. If the file is missing, UAD installation cannot proceed until the operating system is recovered usingthese instructions. For additional system recovery information, click here.
• Note: Detection of the missing “mach_kernel” file by the UAD installer is the only change in v7.3.0b. The UAD software itself is unchanged from the original release, so there is no need to reinstall if already running v7.3.0.

• Cubase 7 is not yet qualified with this release

Complete qualification of Cubase 7 is planned for a future UAD release.

• (Cubase 32-bit only) When performing audio processing via Audio>Plug-Ins menu or region editor window, UAD plug-in controls may become unresponsive if the plug-in window is moved. To regain control if this occurs, close the plug-in window then reopen it. This issue is resolved in UAD v6.5.2 and higher.
• (Cubase 32-bit only) When performing audio processing via Audio>Plug-Ins menu or region editor window with UAD Direct Development Partner plug-ins, the UAD Toolbar cannot be used to load or save UAD presets. UAD presets can be loaded using the up/down arrow buttons in Cubase’s preset management tools instead. This issue does not exist in the 64-bit version of Cubase.

The UAD Audio Units plug-ins may need to be rescanned before they will be recognized by the host software as 64-bit capable. Follow this procedure to force a rescan of all Audio Units plug-ins for all Audio Units hosts (this procedure is unnecessary if already performed for UAD v6.4.1 public beta):

1. Install UAD v6.5.0 software then restart the system.
2. Quit all Audio Units plug-in host applications.

• UAD v6.4.1 for Mac OS X is a public beta release intended primarily for Apple Logic Pro 9 64-bit users. Although 32-bit and 64-bit versions of VST and Audio Units plug-ins are included, they are not fully tested with other hosts.
• Users of 32-bit hosts such as Avid Pro Tools and Ableton Live 8 should not install UAD v6.4.1. Instead, UAD v6.3.2 is recommended. Full support for 32-bit and 64-bit hosts will be included in a future release.

Solid State Logic has since authenticated the plug-ins, and after adding enhancements according to their specifications, they are now officially rebranded and licensed by Universal Audio.
• Although the original UAD 4K Channel Strip and UAD 4K Bus Compressor plug-ins can no longer be purchased, they are still included during installation to retain backwards compatibility with existing sessions.

• UAD Meter settings are now obeyed under certain DAWs with Vista/Win7. Due to changes required for this fix, the UAD Meter "Configuration" and "Run On" settings may revert to default values after running the v5.7.0 installer. Please make note of the settings in the Configuration Tab and Plug-in Tab before upgrading to v5.7.0. Additionally, if multiple users are setup under Vista/Win7, please run the installer from within each user account.

• As of UAD v5.7.0, the prior "UAD VCA VU" compressor plug-in is renamed to "UAD dbx 160." Our classic compressor/limiter plug-in is now officially sanctioned and licensed by dbx®. Please be aware of the following conditions when loading sessions created with UAD v5.6.0 (and earlier).
• VCA VU>dbx 160 Session Compatibility: There are a few known cases where a host application is relying on the plug-in name rather than its unique software identifier key. In these cases, the host will not be able to find the "new" plug-in in v5.7.0 and use it in sessions created with earlier versions (a workaround is below). Copy settings from the session's active "VCA VU" using the UAD Toolbar (in the UAD plug-in window). 6. Replace the "VCA VU" instance with the "dbx 160". 7. Paste the copied "VCA VU" settings into the "dbx 160" instance. Note: This workaround does not work for Audio Units plug-ins under Presonus StudioOne on Mac. There is currently no known workaround for this host.
• UAD dbx 160 Preset Location: With the renaming of VCA VU to dbx 160, your host application may load/save presets from a different location than was previously used for VCA VU. Our plate reverb plug-in is now officially sanctioned and licensed by EMT Studiotechnik GmbH, and it offers several additional controls over the prior plug-in. Please be aware of the following conditions when loading sessions created with UAD v5.5.0 (and earlier).
• Plate 140 >EMT 140 Session Compatibility: There are a few known cases where a host application is relying on the plug-in name rather than its unique software identifier key. In these cases, the host will not be able to find the "new" plug-in in v5.6.0 and use it in sessions created with earlier versions (a workaround is below). These known hosts are: Magix Samplitude, Sony Acid, Sony Vegas, Presonus StudioOne, Steinberg Wavelab, Apple Soundtrack Pro, and BIAS Peak Pro/LE (applies only to Vbox presets). The workaround for these hosts is: 1. Quit the host application. 2. Make a copy of the UAD EMT 140 plugin file/bundle. 3. Rename this copy to "UAD Plate 140" (retain the file extension). 4. Relaunch the host application. You should now have a "EMT 140" plug-in and "Plate 140" plug-in available in the host. 5. Copy settings from the session's active "Plate 140" using the UAD Toolbar (in the UAD plug-in window). 6. Replace the "Plate 140" instance with the "EMT 140". 7. Paste the copied "Plate 140" settings into the "EMT 140" instance.
  Note: This workaround does not work for Audio Units plug-ins under Presonus StudioOne on Mac. There is currently no known workaround for this host.
