UAD-2 DSP Accelerator Basic Troubleshooting

When troubleshooting any issues with the UAD-2 hardware and/or software we recommend starting with the procedures below:

Note: Click here if your UAD-2 Satellite Thunderbolt is not being recognized by the computer.

Uninstall / Reinstall UAD Software

Mac Users: Click here for complete uninstall / reinstall directions.

Windows Users: Click here for complete uninstall / reinstall directions.

Replace FireWire / Thunderbolt Cable

Bad or defective data cables (FireWire or Thunderbolt) can cause many issues with Apollo / UAD devices. If your problem persists after performing the procedures listed above, it would be a good idea to replace your data cable (FireWire or Thunderbolt) to eliminate that as a possible cause of the problem.

Reinstall/Reseat PCIe card

*Note: Power Computer OFF before proceeding.

If the UAD-2 PCIe card is not solidly seated in the PCIe slot it can cause intermittent disconnection errors and/or unstable performance. Carefully removing and reseating the UAD-2 PCIe card in the same or a different PCIe slot may solve the issues. When reseating the UAD-2 PCIe card, it is recommended to clean the connection points of the card itself as well as blow any dust out of the PCIe slot before firmly reinserting the UAD-2 PCIe card into the PCIe slot.

System Sleep (Satellite FireWire)

System Sleep is not supported when using UAD-2 Satellite FireWire. Follow the guidelines below when using UAD-2 Satellite FireWire.

Note: UAD-2 PCIe cards and UAD-2 Satellite Thunderbolt devices are compatible with system sleep, however it is still recommended to disable system sleep for best performance.

Important: Quit all UAD plug-in host software and power down and/or disconnect UAD-2 Satellite before system sleep.

  • Disable sleep:

(Mac) Open the System Preferences>Energy Saver control panel and drag the “Computer Sleep” slider to “Never” (far right position).

(Win) Select Start Menu>Control Panel>System and Security>Power Options>Change when the computer sleeps, then next to “Put the computer to sleep:” select “Never”

  • Before sleeping the system when UAD-2 Satellite FireWire is active, quit all plug-in host applications (including UAD Meter & Control Panel and Apollo Console applications) then power off or disconnect UAD-2 Satellite FireWire.
  • Shut down (power off) the computer before reconnecting UAD-2 Satellite FireWire. Hot plugging is not supported.

Boot Order (Satellite FireWire)

When using UAD-2 Satellite FireWire it is important to make sure that you always boot up in the correct order. For best performance always turn the Satellite FireWire on before turning the computer on.

UAD-2 LED Key

The UAD-2 has an LED indicator. This LED provides certain indications about the operational state of the UAD-2. The location of the LED depends on the UAD-2 product. On UAD-2 PCIe cards, the LED is on the mounting bracket of the card. On the SOLO/Laptop, the LED is next to the UA logo on the black housing. On UAD-2 Satellite, the LED is on the rear panel.
