UAFX Pedal General Troubleshooting

Updating UAFX Firmware

If you are experiencing any issues with a UAFX pedal, we first recommend that you use UA Connect to update your firmware or to verify your pedal firmware is the latest version.

Detailed instructions can be found here.

When updating firmware, the pedal may restart twice, and it is important to allow the update to complete fully without interruption.

My UAFX Pedal does not power on

Make sure you have verified your power supply meets the requirements documented in the UAFX Cable Guide. If you have verified your power supply, reach out to UA Customer Care.

I can’t install the latest version of UAFX Control

While UAFX control supports a wide range of iOS and Android devices, older versions of Android and iOS may not be able to run the latest version of UAFX Control. If this is the case, it may not be possible to connect to pedals or use the latest features.

I can’t install the latest version of UA Connect

UA Connect requires macOS Big Sur or newer, or Windows 10 or newer. It is not possible to update UAFX pedals without a macOS or Windows computer that meets the minimum specifications for UA Connect.

I am having difficulty connecting to Bluetooth

  • Make sure the UAFX pedal is running the latest firmware.
  • Make sure your mobile device is running the latest version of UAFX Control.
  • Fully quit out of the UAFX Control app via your mobile device's app switcher.
  • Power the mobile device off and back on.
  • Power the UAFX pedal off and back on.
  • Click the pair button on the back of the pedal, and then open the UAFX Control app and try to connect by clicking the “Add New” button.

How do I restore a pedal to default settings?

Important Notes: Restoring a pedal to default deletes the stored preset, bonus effect(s)/bonus speakers, user presets, user Rigs, and registration. Customized presets and rig settings are permanently lost.

To get the bonus effect after restoring defaults, register the pedal again with UA Connect or UAFX Control.

To restore presets or rigs from a previously saved backup after resetting, use the Preset / Rig restore procedures in the UAFX Control Manual.

Follow these steps to reset your UAFX pedal to the factory defaults:

  1. Disconnect the UAFX pedal’s 9VDC power supply.
  2. Press and hold the PAIR button on the rear panel while reconnecting power.
  3. Continue holding the PAIR button until all LEDs on the pedal begin to blink (approximately 10-15 seconds), then release the PAIR button.
  4. Press then quickly release (don’t hold) the PAIR button again and wait 20 seconds for the pedal to finish restarting. After the Effect Type LED stops cycling, the restart is complete, and all settings are returned to their default values.
  5. Disconnect the UAFX pedal’s 9VDC power again to power off the pedal, then reconnect the power. After this second restart, the pedal is ready for use.
  6. If the UAFX pedal was previously connected to Bluetooth, remove the pedal from the list of known Bluetooth devices and from the UAFX Control app on your mobile device.

I am experiencing noise

UAFX pedals have exemplary specifications and will not add audible noise to a signal. However, depending on the pedal, they have tremendous potential to amplify any noise applied to the input.

Guitars and the unbalanced cabling they use are susceptible to noise. A single-coil pickup will be more susceptible to noise than a humbucker.

  • Unplug the USB cable, if connected. Check to see if the noise is associated.
  • Certain types of devices may pass on noise through the USB connection. This can be mitigated by using a different, simpler device with fewer electronics, or trying a USB isolator if you need to maintain the USB connection. See the UAFX Cable Guide for more information.
  • Disconnect the guitar, and see if the noise is in relation to the instrument.
  • Test a clean input source, such as a synthesizer.
  • Try re-locating to see if the noise is related to the local environment.
  • Simplify any connections, and test plugging in to the UAFX pedal directly.
  • Try a different instrument cable.
  • Try a different instrument.
  • Bear in mind that particular settings may exaggerate and amplify any noise that enters the pedal.
