What new features are included in LUNA Free 3.0?

The features listed below are all included in the LUNA Free 3.0 update:

LUNA Play

Capture ideas the moment inspiration strikes.

LUNA Play allows musicians to immediately record vocal or instrument ideas without first creating a DAW session. Users can clean up noisy recordings, organize ideas, and continue production later inside the full LUNA timeline.

LUNA Play automatically detects incoming audio, creates tracks automatically, and removes manual session setup so users can focus entirely on creating.

Mono In → Stereo Out

Use mono recording sources with stereo processing.

Assign a mono microphone or instrument input directly to a stereo track, allowing immediate access to stereo plug-ins such as Topline Vocal Suite or Paradise Guitar.

This enables mono recordings to take advantage of stereo effects without requiring additional routing or track management.

Strip Silence

Automatically detects audible regions in an audio recording and removes silent sections, turning long recordings into clean, editable clips in seconds. With adjustable threshold, minimum clip duration, and clip padding controls, users can quickly clean up vocals, dialogue, drums, and instrument recordings while preserving natural transients and maintaining a completely non-destructive workflow.

Clip Gain Automation

Perform detailed gain adjustments directly on audio clips before plug-ins and fader automation.

Clip Gain Automation enables users to draw gain curves across individual words, phrases, or regions, making vocal balancing and level correction faster while preserving downstream processing.

Because clip gain occurs before inserts, users can drive compressors, tape, and console emulations more consistently.

Record FX

Print effects while recording.

Record FX gives native users the same recording workflow previously exclusive to Apollo interfaces.

Users can insert Universal Audio plug-ins, including guitar amps such as Dream, into a dedicated Record FX slot and record directly to the timeline with processing already applied.

Record FX processing occurs before Tape and Console emulation, allowing tracks to receive subtle tonal shaping during recording and reducing the amount of processing required during mixing.

Click Track Automation & Export

Gain complete control over the session click.

Users can automate click volume alongside tempo changes, mute the click during sensitive recording sections to reduce headphone bleed, and increase click levels where stronger performance cues are needed. The click track can also be exported during Mixdown alongside other session outputs.

Stem Separation

Separate stereo mixes into editable stems.

LUNA Free includes:

  • 4-track Stem Separation
  • Acapella creation
  • Instrumental creation

Users can experience our new source separation and upgrade to LUNA Studio to unlock additional instrument isolation.

Piano Roll

Edit MIDI and audio with greater precision with Luna’s new adaptive grid. The Piano Roll provides a dedicated workspace for editing Warp markers, MIDI notes, and clip content while preserving visibility of the primary timeline.

Users can:

  • Edit Warp markers with precision scaling
  • Paint and edit MIDI notes
  • Maintain context within the arrangement
  • The result is a faster editing workflow with fewer interruptions.

What does LUNA Studio include?

LUNA Studio expands beyond recording and mixing by introducing new creative tools for producers, songwriters, composers, and engineers. These capabilities help users extend existing musical ideas, generate new creative content, and finish productions without leaving the LUNA timeline.

Upgrade pricing is available for existing LUNA Pro customers. LUNA Studio is also included in UAD Spark Studio subscriptions.

Audio-to-MIDI

Transform audio performances into editable MIDI.

Users can:

  • Convert performances into MIDI
  • Layer virtual instruments with recorded audio
  • Replace recorded instruments with software instruments or external synthesizers
  • Quantize timing
  • Apply swing
  • Edit musical performances with complete MIDI flexibility
  • Convert separated stems into editable MIDI for greater creative control

6-Track Stem Separation

Unlock more detailed source separation than LUNA Free.

LUNA Studio separates stereo recordings into:

  • Vocals
  • Drums
  • Bass
  • Piano
  • Guitar
  • Other instruments

This additional separation gives producers finer control when replacing performances, remixing songs, creating backing tracks, or adding new production layers.

Lyric Transcription, powered by Moises

Automatically transcribe vocals into a time-aligned lyric browser.

Lyrics remain synchronized with the project timeline, allowing users to:

  • Jump directly to specific lyrics
  • Navigate vocal performances quickly
  • Find punch-in locations
  • Perform vocal corrections more efficiently
  • Organize production around lyrical content

Chord Extraction, powered by Moises

Automatically detect and map harmonic content throughout a song.

Chord Extraction analyzes recordings, identifies the performed chords, and aligns them with the project timeline.

Users can:

  • Learn songs through harmonic analysis
  • Display chord guides during recording sessions
  • Copy and paste chord labels
  • Reuse harmonic information throughout an arrangement
  • Give performers visual chord references during tracking

By making sessions harmonically aware, LUNA becomes a more powerful songwriting and collaboration environment.

New ARA Software

  • Celemony Tonalic Essential: Tonalic introduces generative songwriting directly inside LUNA. Songwriters, composers, and beat makers can generate complementary musical ideas, extend arrangements, explore alternate harmonies, and create new instrumental parts without leaving the timeline.
  • Synthesizer V Studio 2 Core: Synthesizer V brings vocal performance directly into the production workflow. Users can create, edit, and refine vocal performances inside LUNA using ARA integration, allowing producers and engineers to complete vocal arrangements and finalize productions without switching applications.
