Before you Begin
MacOS
On macOS, audio interfaces are currently not supported in Discord. Additional info: Audio Interface Issues on macOS
For a workaround solution, Volt's mic input signal can be routed to a simple 2-channel virtual I/O audio device using a 3rd-party tool such as Loopback by Rogue Amoeba. That virtual device can then be selected as the Microphone in Discord.
Volt interfaces are class-compliant — no additional driver is required for macOS. Before configuring Discord, complete the following:
- Download and install UA Connect.
- Register your Volt in UA Connect and install any available firmware updates.
- Install UAD Console if your Volt model supports it, as listed below.
Windows
The Volt Driver is required on Windows to access all of Volt's input and output channels. Before configuring Discord, complete the following:
- Download and install UA Connect.
- Register your Volt in UA Connect, install the Volt Driver, and install any available firmware updates.
- Install UAD Console if your Volt model supports it, as listed below.
UAD Console Compatibility with Volt
UAD Console is compatible with Volt Gen 2, Volt Max, and Volt 876. It is not compatible with first-generation Volt models. Interfaces are grouped as follows:
- UAD Console compatible: Volt 1 Gen 2, Volt 2 Gen 2, Volt 4 Gen 2, Volt 2 Max, Volt 4 Max, Volt 4P Max, Volt 876
- Not UAD Console compatible: Volt 1, Volt 2, Volt 176, Volt 276, Volt 476, Volt 476P
Every model in both groups will follow the same Discord configuration steps described in this article. Only the monitoring and preamp control options differ.
Connect Volt to your Computer
- Connect Volt to your computer using the included USB cable.
- Power on Volt if your model features a power switch.
Note: Connect Volt directly to a port on your computer whenever possible. If you must use a hub, use a powered USB hub to ensure the interface receives sufficient power.
Setting up Volt with Discord
- Use UAD Console or Volt's physical controls to gain stage and set appropriate I/O levels.
- In Discord, go to User Settings > Voice & Video. Volt can be selected as the Microphone and Speaker device.
Note: In Windows, Volt will present its WDM input selection as stereo pairs. Select the input pair that includes the channel(s) where the microphone is connected. A mono input signal will be summed to both L/R output channels of Discord. - The Mic Test button can be used to verify Volt's mic input level going into Discord. It is recommended to disable Volt's DIRECT monitoring function while using Discord's Mic Test.
-
Optional: To bypass Discord's input processing algorithms such as noise suppression and echo cancellation, select Input Profile > Studio.
