Problem |
Possible Cause |
Solution |
No signal from the microphone. |
Microphone is not receiving 48V phantom power from the preamp. |
Use the supplied XLR breakout cable to connect the mic to the preamp inputs and enable phantom power on both channels. |
Sound is muffled and reverberant. |
Sound is coming into the rear of the microphone. |
Rotate the mic 180° so sound enters the front. |
Input channels are swapped. |
Make sure the Front output is routed to the Left input of the plug-in, and the Rear output is routed to the Right input. |
|
Sound is distorted.
|
Preamp input gain is too high. |
Reduce the preamp gain on both mic channels. |
SPL at mic is too high. |
Set the Attenuation switch on the mic to the -20 or -10 dB setting (DLX or L22 only). |
|
Output level of the preamp is too high, causing clipping of the A/D converters. |
Lower the preamp level until the distortion disappears. |
|
Output level of the Sphere plug-in is too high, causing clipping of the A/D converters. |
Lower the plug-in output level until the distortion disappears. |
|
Mic modeling from plug-in output does not sound normal.
|
Only one channel of the microphone is connected/powered and routed to the plug-in. |
The Input meter at the bottom of the plug-in shows audio level to both channels: The top and bottom of the meter show the left and right channels, respectively. If the plug-in is not receiving audio on both channels, check that both mic channels are connected to the preamp, and the preamp is connected to your DAW. |
The gain levels of the preamp channels are not properly matched. |
Calibrate your preamp levels. |
|
Microphone is in calibration mode. |
Move the calibration switch on the mic to the NORM position. |
|
The mic outputs are swapped. |
Make sure the Front output is routed to the Left input of the plug-in, and the Rear output is routed to the Right input. |
|
The signal chain includes another plug-in or outboard processor that precedes the Sphere plug-in. |
