FAQ: How to Activate UAD Plug-ins and Apps on Your Computer

Starting on March 25, 2025, native UADx plug-in and LUNA licenses can be activated to local host (machine) locations – on up to three (3) locations such as your computers or iLok USBs. This allows you to use them anywhere after activation without requiring an internet connection.

This article will guide you through the steps to use local host (computer) authorization. For steps on how to use an iLok USB, read this article.

Important Note:

UAD Spark is a subscription license and will continue to support iLok Cloud and iLok USB authorization only. UAD Spark cannot be authorized locally.

This article will guide you on how to activate your native plug-in licenses to your computer.

  1. Install UA Connect if you have not done so already.
Note: An Internet connection is initially required to download UA Connect, log in to your UA account and install the products you'd like to activate.
  2. Log in to your UA Connect using the e-mail associated to your UA account and password.
  3. After UA Connect applies any required updates, you will be prompted to move any UAD native plug-in activations you own from iLok Cloud to your computer location. Click the OK button.
Note: iLok Cloud sessions that are currently open will be briefly closed and reopened.
  4. When the migration is complete a confirmation window will appear. Press OK to complete the process.

If for any reason you are not quite ready to move your licenses to machine authorization, moving your activations by pressing the Remind me later button. This can be done up to two times.

UA Connect is not prompting me to migrate my licenses, what's going on?

If you are not getting the dialog notifying you of this change, try completely quitting UA Connect, rebooting your computer and relaunching UA Connect.

Important Note: Any activations on iLok USB are unaffected by this update.
