Getting started
What is UA Bock 167?
UA Bock 167 is a high-quality large-diaphragm condenser microphone with vacuum tube electronics and continuously variable directivity. Featuring a dual symmetrical K67 capsule and a large core output transformer to dramatically increase low frequency response and headroom, the UA Bock 167 sounds rich and full.
Designed and engineered by David Bock, the UA Bock 167 provides a wider range of controls versus a vintage U67. This makes it a natural choice for singers, acoustic instruments, drums, and voiceovers.
How do I mount the microphone in the mic shockmount?
Thread the shockmount onto a 5/8"-27 thread microphone stand. Insert the microphone into the shockmount and turn the collar clockwise to tighten the microphone into the mount.
What are the controls on the power supply?
The power supply includes a power switch and rotary polar pattern control knob.
What are the switches on the Microphone?
- Pad (-10 dB) — Reduces the mic signal level with loud sound sources
- FAT Mode — Norm offers a nominally flat response with a slight lift at the high end, whereas Fat adds a low-end boost between 10 Hz and 400 Hz while losing the high lift.
- HIGH FREQUENCY switch offers four filtering options for tone shaping. From left: -3 dB of shelving cut at 10 kHz, -1.5 dB shelving cut at 5 kHz, flat, and an additional +2 dB shelving boost at 10 kHz
Which direction should the UA Bock 167 point?
The UA badge indicates the front of the microphone. Since the UA Bock 167 is a side address microphone, the UA badge should be facing the sound source.
What are the available polar patterns?
The polar pattern is continuously variable from omni to cardioid to figure-8.
Which cable should I use for my UA Bock 167?
UA Bock 167 should only be used with the included proprietary six-pin XLR cable.
