Dream '65 Power
Note: Power supply sold separately.
UAFX pedals require an isolated 9 volt DC, center negative, 2.1 x 5.5 mm barrel connector (same as standard Boss connectors) power supply, which can provide 400 mA (milliamps) of current. Each UAFX pedal must be connected to a separate power supply, or connected to an isolated power connection from a multi-output power supply. Connect the power supply to the 9VDC connector on the pedal’s rear panel.
When you first connect your UAFX pedal to a power supply, the Effect LEDs cycle, showing that the pedal is starting up. The startup sequence takes about 15 seconds.
If power to your UAFX pedal is interrupted during operation, audio stops. UAFX Dream '65 requires power to pass audio through the pedal.
Important Power Notes
- Each UAFX pedal requires 400 mA of current. Make sure your power supply can deliver at least 400 mA to the pedal for proper operation and performance.
- An isolated supply provides power and grounding that is electrically separated, usually by means of a transformer for each connector. Some low-cost power supplies might have separate connectors, but might not provide true ground and power isolation, causing noise and ground loop hum.
- If your power supply has multiple outputs, make sure that each output provides true isolation, or that you connect your pedal to its own power supply.
- It’s OK to connect a power supply that can deliver more than 400 mA. The pedal only draws the current it needs and will not be damaged if the supply is 9VDC.
- If your power supply is not isolated, you might hear additional hum in the pedal signals. If the supply cannot provide 400 mA of current, the pedal might not operate properly, even if the LEDs and switches seem to be working.
Dream '65 Connections
All UAFX audio jacks accept 1/4" (6.35 mm) unbalanced TS (Tip-Sleeve) instrument cables. Although TRS (Tip-Ring-Sleeve) cables may be used, they offer no benefit over TS cables.
Mono and stereo connections
Your UAFX pedal senses which jacks are connected and adjusts the internal signal routing automatically. Stereo inputs are processed in true stereo, and output as either stereo or mono depending on the connected inputs.
Important: You must connect to UAFX’s IN 1/MONO jack. The IN 2/STEREO jack doesn’t work by itself without the IN 1/MONO connection.
Vibrato Channel
Dream '65 models only the Vibrato channel of the classic '65 amplifier. The Normal channel is not modeled.
Buffered output
Dream '65’s output is always buffered and there is no analog dry-through. The pedal must be powered to pass audio. When bypassed, the audio signal remains analog from input to output, and is not subject to digital conversion.
4-cable mode
4-cable mode is a special routing mode, which allows you to add your Dream '65 pedal to your effects-loop equipped guitar amplifier as a separate channel. Because your pedal is routed directly to your guitar’s power amp and bypasses your amplifier’s preamp section, you get much more realistic UAFX tones from your amplifier with 4-cable mode. With this feature, you can also switch between your guitar amplifier’s built-in preamp and the sounds in Dream '65, effectively adding two channels to your amplifier.
To connect your pedal and amp for 4-cable mode, see the connection examples below. To enable 4-cable mode, see the UAFX Control Mobile App Manual.
Warning: Turn off your amplifier before wiring the pedal and enabling 4-cable mode. If you enable 4-cable mode without the cables wired correctly, you can cause extreme feedback.
Tip: When you’re playing through a real speaker cabinet, you might want to disable the pedal’s cab emulation by pressing the pedal's Speaker switch until its LED is unlit.
UAFX pedal operating levels
UAFX pedals are designed with enough headroom to easily accommodate instrument levels and amp effects loop levels, but they can also handle line-level gear such as synthesizers and audio interfaces. The pedals are voiced for instrument levels, so you may need to reduce the line out level of the gear you’re connecting into the pedals to avoid overdriving the effects.
USB-C port
The USB-C port is for pedal registration and firmware updates only, via the UAFX Control desktop app for Mac and Windows computers. You can connect to any type of USB port on the computer, but you may need an adapter.
Pair button
The PAIR button and LED are for pairing the pedal with a mobile device when using the UAFX Control mobile app.
Connection Examples
Tip: When playing through a real guitar amplifier and speaker cabinet, you might want to bypass the speaker cabinet emulation by pressing the pedal's Speaker switch until its LED is unlit.

4-Cable Mode
4-cable mode with Dream '65, Ruby '63, and Woodrow '55 amp pedals let you add another switchable channel to any real guitar amplifier that has an effects loop. This special mode lets you switch between your guitar amplifier’s built-in preamp section and the sounds in your pedal.
Warning: Turn off your amplifier before wiring the pedal and enabling 4-cable mode. If you enable 4-cable mode with incorrect wiring, you can cause extreme feedback.
How 4-cable mode works
- When a UAFX amp pedal is on, the amp emulation is heard, and the real amp’s preamp section is bypassed.
- When a UAFX amp pedal is off, the real amp’s preamp section is heard, and the pedal is bypassed with analog dry-through.
4-cable mode notes
- 4-cable mode is only available on UAFX amp pedals (Dream '65, Ruby '63, and Woodrow '55).
- If the pedal is not already in Live | Preset mode when you enable 4-cable mode, a confirmation appears, and the pedal automatically switches switches to Live | Preset mode after you confirm.
- When you’re playing through a real guitar amplifier and speaker cabinet, you might want to disable the pedal’s speaker cabinet emulation by pressing the pedal's Speaker switch until its LED is unlit.
- You may need to adjust the UAFX pedal’s Output knob lower than you normally would, because the effects loop return on your amp is unattenuated.
- If you are using other pedals in your effects loop, place them between the first UAFX amp pedal’s 2/Stereo output and the Return input on your amp’s effects loop. With this wiring, the other pedals in the effects loop still process audio, even when the pedals are bypassed.
- Front-of-amplifier effects, such as distortion and overdrive pedals, should be placed between the instrument and the first pedal’s 1/Mono input.
Multiple UAFX amp pedals
To use multiple UAFX amp pedals in 4-cable mode, see the examples below. With multiple pedals configured in 4-cable mode, you can switch between preset and live sounds on the amp pedals and the sounds in your real amplifier for even more available sounds. When you use multiple amp pedals in 4-cable mode, the earliest amp pedal enabled in the chain is the amp pedal you hear.
Tip: To switch between sounds on different UAFX amp pedals with multiple pedals in 4-cable mode, enable sounds on multiple pedals. The first pedal that is enabled is the pedal you hear. When you bypass a pedal that is earlier than another enabled pedal, you will hear the next enabled pedal. In this way you can switch between sounds on multiple pedals.
To enable 4-cable mode
- Power off your real amplifier.
- Configure the cables as illustrated and described below.
- Connect to the pedal with the UAFX Control mobile app, and open the pedal Settings screen.
- In the UAFX Control mobile app, under 4-Cable Mode, tap On. A confirmation is displayed.
- Tap Enable 4-Cable Mode in UAFX Control mobile. The pedal enters 4-cable mode.
- Turn your amplifier on.
You can now hear the UAFX amp pedal when Live mode or Preset mode is enabled, and your real amplifier’s preamp channel when the pedal is disabled.
4-cable mode connections
See the diagrams and sections below for 4-cable mode connections with one, two, or three UAFX amp pedals.
One UAFX amp pedal
Use 4-cable mode with one UAFX amp pedal to add another switchable channel to your real effects-loop equipped guitar amplifier.
- Connect your instrument to the 1/Mono input on your UAFX amp pedal.
- Connect the 1/Mono output from the UAFX amp pedal to the main input on your amplifier.
- Connect the effects loop Send output on your amplifier to the 2/Stereo input on your UAFX amp pedal.

- Place any front-of-amplifier effects between your instrument and the UAFX amp pedal, and place any other effects loop effects between the pedal’s 2/Stereo output and the effects loop return input on your amplifier.
UAFX amp pedal enabled
This diagram shows the signal flow when the UAFX amp pedal is enabled. Your signal is colored with the full amp tone from the pedal and routed to your real amplifier’s effects loop return, bypassing your real amplifier’s input jack and preamplifier section. Any effects placed in your amplifier’s effects loop return are heard.
UAFX amp pedal bypassed
This diagram shows the signal flow when the UAFX amp pedal is bypassed. Note that your signal passes through the pedal with no pedal amp tone, and into the main input on your real amplifier. Any effects placed before your amplifier’s effects loop return are heard.
Two UAFX amp pedals
To connect two UAFX amp pedals in 4-cable mode, you need a total of six cables. Wire the pedals as described and shown in the diagram below. In this mode, the earliest enabled UAFX amp pedal is the one you hear, even when the other UAFX amp pedal is enabled. Looking at your pedals from the top, this would be the UAFX amp pedal furthest to the right. Any effects placed before your amplifier’s effects loop return are heard.
- Connect your instrument to the 1/Mono input on your first UAFX amp pedal.
- Connect the 1/Mono output from the first pedal to the 1/Mono input on the second pedal.
- Connect the 2/Stereo output from the first pedal to the effects loop Return input on your amplifier.

- Connect the effects loop Send output on your amplifier to the 2/Stereo input on the second pedal.
- Place any front-of-amplifier effects between your instrument and the first UAFX amp pedal, and place any other effects loop effects between the first pedal’s 2/Stereo output and the effects loop return input on your amplifier.
Three UAFX amp pedals
To connect three UAFX amp pedals in 4-cable mode, you need a total of eight cables. Wire the pedals as described and shown in the diagram below. In this mode, the earliest enabled pedal is the one you hear, even when one or both of the other two pedals are enabled. Looking at your pedals from the top, this would be the pedal furthest to the right. Any effects placed before your amplifier’s effects loop return are heard.
- Connect your instrument to the 1/Mono input on your first UAFX amp pedal.
- Connect the 1/Mono output from the first pedal to the 1/Mono input on the second pedal.
- Connect the 1/Mono output from the second pedal to the 1/Mono input on the third pedal.
- Connect the 2/Stereo output from the first pedal to the effects loop Return input on your amplifier.
- Connect the 2/Stereo output from the second pedal to the 2/Stereo input on the first pedal.
- Connect the 2/Stereo output from the third pedal to the 2/Stereo input on the second pedal.
- Connect the 1/Mono output from the third pedal to the main input on your amplifier.
- Connect the effects loop Send output on your amplifier to the 2/Stereo input on the third pedal.
- Place any front-of-amplifier effects between your instrument and the first UAFX amp pedal, and place any other effects loop effects between the first pedal’s 2/Stereo output and the effects loop return input on your amplifier.
Dream '65 Operation
Live Mode and Preset Mode
Dream '65 is set up in Live | Preset mode by default. You can use the UAFX Control mobile app to change footswitch assignments.
In Live mode, the sound reflects the current positions of the knobs, switches, and LEDs on the pedal, and the left footswitch toggles the Live mode sound on/off.
In Preset mode, you hear the settings that are stored as a preset, and the current positions of the knobs and switches do not reflect the sound. Instead, all knob and switch positions are internally set to their stored positions, and the right footswitch toggles the preset sound on/off.
You can store a preset you’ve created with your own settings by holding down the ALT/AMP/STORE switch until the green PRESET footswitch LED blinks rapidly (about 0.5 seconds)..
Live Mode
To enter Live mode, press the left footswitch. Press the left footswitch again to toggle the effect on/off. The left footswitch LED is lit red when the Live mode effect is on.
Preset Mode
To enter Preset mode, press the right footswitch. Press the right footswitch again to toggle the preset on/off. The right footswitch LED is lit green when the preset is on.
Note: The left and right footswitch functions can be changed in the UAFX Control mobile app.
Stored Preset
You can store a preset on your UAFX pedal, and recall it using the right footswitch. All presets you store, and other artist and factory presets, are available in the UAFX Control mobile app.
When you store a preset while in Live mode, the position of all knobs and switches on the pedal are saved. The preset also stores ALT knob positions, such as the alternate settings for the vibrato circuit. When you make a great sound in Live mode, storing it is as easy as holding down the ALT/AMP/STORE switch until the green PRESET footswitch LED blinks rapidly (about 0.5 seconds).
When you store a preset while in Preset mode, only those knobs and switches that have changed since you loaded the preset are saved. So, when saving in Preset mode, what you hear is what is saved, and not the current positions of the knobs and switches.
To store your sound as a preset
- Set your sound as you want it stored in the preset.
- Press and hold the ALT/AMP/STORE switch in the down position until the green PRESET footswitch LED blinks rapidly (about 0.5 seconds).
Preset Notes
- The settings for Preset mode and Live mode are completely independent.
- When you move a knob or switch in Preset mode, the settings for the sound immediately jump to the new knob or switch position.
- You can view and audition all of your pedal’s presets with the UAFX Control mobile app.
- Presets can only be stored when the pedal is not bypassed.
Dream '65 Controls
The following controls are available on Dream '65.
Volume
Adjusts the amp’s gain. As you increase volume, the character of the amp changes, becoming more overdriven and compressed. When the volume knob is set at the minimum, you will still hear the amp. The minimum level has been adjusted to provide the lowest amount of usable volume that the original hardware can provide. As you turn the volume knob up, the output volume is automatically adjusted to compensate.
Note: This is the volume control on the original amp. For clean “post-amp” volume adjustments, use the Output control.
Reverb
Adjusts the amount of the amp’s tube-driven spring reverb. When the amp is clean, the reverb is more noticeable. As volume and boost are increased, the reverb appears to be less loud, as the amp compresses and saturates. This is the same way the reverb works with the original tube amp.
Note: There are no reverb trails when the pedal is bypassed.
Output
Adjusts the output level from the pedal. When the Output volume is set at noon (running direct or into other pedals), it will be roughly the same level as your bypassed volume.
Output volume allows you to set the level for your setup. This control is not available on the original amplifier.
Bass
Adjusts the low frequency response of the amp’s tone stack.
Treble / Speed
Adjusts two different settings, depending on the position of the Alt / Amp / Store switch.
- AMP mode: Adjusts the high frequency response of the amp’s tone stack.
- ALT mode: Adjusts the amp’s vibrato speed.
Note: As with the original amp modification, vibrato speed is unavailable when Mod is set to D-TEX and Boost is not set to OFF. When Boost is not off, the speaker LED blinks rapidly when Speed is rotated, indicating the knob has no effect.
Boost / Intensity
Adjusts two different settings, depending on the position of the Alt / Amp / Store switch.
- AMP mode: Adjusts the amount of boost applied to the amp circuitry. See Dream '65 Mods for details about the available boost types.
- ALT mode: Adjusts the amp’s vibrato intensity.
Notes:
- When the Boost knob is set to OFF, no boost is applied.
- As with the original amp modification, vibrato intensity is unavailable when Mod is set to D-TEX and Boost is not set to OFF. When Boost is not off, the speaker LED blinks rapidly when Intensity is rotated, indicating the knob has no effect.
Speaker
Push this switch up or down to change the speaker cabinet and microphone. When you push the switch repeatedly in the same direction, the pedal cycles through all available speaker cabinets.
Tip: Register your pedal to get free bonus speaker cabinets.
Speaker Type LED
The currently selected speaker cabinet is indicated by this LED. A red LED indicates that the effect printed on the pedal is selected. A bonus speaker cabinet is selected when an LED is green (the bonus speaker cabinets don't have labels).
When the LED is off, the amp is active but no speaker cabinet simulation is applied.
Tip: When playing through a real guitar amplifier and speaker cabinet, you might want to bypass the speaker cabinet emulation by pressing the pedal's Speaker switch until its LED is unlit.
Alt / Amp / Store
In AMP mode, the standard knob controls are available for the amp.
In ALT mode, vibrato speed and intensity controls are available on the treble and boost knobs.
To store a preset, press and hold the ALT/AMP/STORE switch in the down position until the green PRESET footswitch LED blinks rapidly (about 0.5 seconds).
Mod
Dream '65 includes three boost types: two amp modifications (changes to the amp’s circuitry) and a clean boost. These hardware modifications, which are commonly performed on the original amp, change the amp’s character and the amount of available gain.
Use the mod switch to select the Mod variation, and the Boost knob to add gain from these mods. See Dream '65 Mods for more details about the mods.
- STOCK is the stock amp circuit, and the Boost knob increases clean boost to the amp’s input.
- LEAD adds a prized 80’s “OD special” mod to the amp, and the Boost knob increases the amount of gain.
- D-TEX adds an SRV mod to the amp for Texas blues tones, and the Boost knob increases the amount of gain. As with the original mod, vibrato is available only when the Boost knob is set to OFF. Note that with this mod, the effect of the bass and treble knobs is reduced as you increase the Boost knob.
Left Switch LED
By default, the left footswitch LED is lit red when Live mode knob and switch settings are active.
Other states for the left footswitch LED are detailed in Footswitch Modes.
Left Footswitch
By default, press to toggle the Live mode sound on/off with the current knob and switch settings.
This footswitch can also toggle other options, depending on the pedal footswitch mode, as detailed in Footswitch Modes.
Right Footswitch LED
The right footswitch LED is lit green when stored settings are active. There are other modes for the right footswitch LED, as detailed in Footswitch Modes.
Right Footswitch
By default, press to toggle the Preset sound on/off.
This footswitch can also toggle other options, depending on the pedal footswitch mode, as detailed in the table below.
Drream '65 Footswitch Modes
With the UAFX Control mobile app, you can change the operation of your pedal and your pedal’s footswitches for your amplifier setup and performance preferences. For example, if you use Dream '65 as your main amplifier, and you don’t need to bypass your pedal, you can use footswitch modes to toggle boost and vibrato, reverb and vibrato, or reverb and boost on and off.
For details about footswitch modes and how to enable them, see the UAFX Control Mobile App Manual.

Dream '65 Mods
Dream '65 amp modifications are modeled from hardware customizations that are commonly performed on the original amplifier. Each Mod has a unique sound and effect. To increase the amount of gain and the effect of the mod, rotate the Boost knob clockwise. When the boost knob is turned all the way down to OFF, the mod is disabled and has no effect on amp color or gain.
Mod |
Description |
Notes |
Lead |
Removes the bright cap when the knob is above OFF, so at lower boost knob settings, the amp sounds warmer. As you increase the boost knob up to the 10 o’clock position or so, the mod adds some midrange from the tone stack lift (called “lead boost”). |
As you increase the gain past noon, the gain increases, and power amp output is compensated to prevent ”mushiness”. |
Stock |
In stock mode, the Boost knob adds clean gain. The amp tone remains the same, but you can add up to 10 dB of gain to the front of the amp. |
Use this setting for the cleanest tones. |
D-Tex |
This is known as the SRV mod. As with the original mod, Vibrato is available only when the Boost knob is set to OFF. Provides more midrange and significantly more gain from the preamp stages. In the original hardware, this increases the amount of current to the other tubes. |
At low settings, just adds a little “more.” Use this mod on a low Boost knob setting for SRV-style soft compression and a more open midrange. As you turn the Boost knob up, this mod reduces the effect of the tone stack, creating a more vocal and open midrange. Bass and Treble knobs have less effect at lower boost values. At the maximum setting, the Bass and Treble knobs have no effect. |
Dream '65 Tone Shortcuts
Set the Speaker and Mod switches in the same positions for three classic amp and speaker cabinet pairings.
- GB25 + Lead - Pairing favored by studio guitarists in the '80s and '90s.
- Oxford + Stock - Stock factory pairing for the amplifier.
- EV12 + D-Tex - SRV-style Texas blues amp and speaker cabinet pairing.
Factory and Artist presets offer many more great-sounding speaker cabinet and channel pairings. Use the UAFX Control mobile app to access presets.
