How To Transfer Ownership of Apollo, Satellite, or PCIe UAD-2 Devices

IMPORTANT: This article describes how to transfer Apollo / Satellite / PCIe UAD-2 hardware from your account to a new owner. For registration information, click here

Account transfer is not required for moving hardware from one computer to another, or between systems in your account.

  • UAD-2/Apollo hardware can be transferred with or without all UAD DSP plug-in licenses in the system. Individual plug-ins can not be selected for transfer.
  • If the option to include plug-ins with a transfer is chosen, all UAD DSP plug-in licenses in the System associated with the device, as well as associated perpetual UAD Native plug-in (UADx) licenses, will be transferred with the hardware to the new owner.
  • UAD Native plug-in (UADx) licenses without an associated UAD DSP plug-in version cannot be transferred.
  • Unless you wish to transfer ownership of your entire UAD DSP plug-in library with the device, a transfer is not necessary.
  • Any Apollo or Satellite hardware can be registered, and it will move out of your account automatically when it is registered to a different account.
  • If no plug-ins are transferred out of your account with the device, the new owner will receive the associated Analog Classics collection.
  • Transfers are not required for Volt, microphone, or guitar products.
  • It is not possible to initiate a transfer after the hardware has been registered to a different account, and re-registration requires access to the hardware.
  • Any used Apollo Satellite UAD-2 hardware can be registered without a transfer being initiated by the previous owner.  If that is the case, the new owner will receive the associated Analog Classics collection. See this FAQ for details.

Deactivate iLok Licenses

If you choose to transfer all plug-ins and have UAD Native plug-ins (UADx) licenses activated, they must be deactivated from your iLok account before requesting a transfer.

To deactivate UAD Native plug-in (UADx) licenses:

  • Open iLok License Manager
  • Right-click (Ctrl+Click) on any LUNA or UAD Native plug-in (UADx) licenses and choose Deactivate.

After the licenses are deactivated, you can fill out the transfer form and submit.

How do I transfer Apollo/UAD-2 hardware to a new owner?

Unless you wish to transfer ownership of your entire UAD DSP plug-in library with the device, a transfer is not necessary; the new owner can simply register the device as used using the instructions in this article.

If you need to initiate a transfer, the current owner can transfer ownership by clicking the Transfer a Device button on this page.

A pop-up window will open, showing the serial number of each device so that it is possible to discern between two products of the same type. Click the Transfer button on the device that must be transferred.

The current owner must choose if they want to transfer all plug-ins registered to the System that they are transferring the UAD-2/Apollo hardware from to the new owner.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Individual plug-ins cannot be selected to transfer.

If Yes is chosen, all UAD DSP plug-in licenses in the System associated with the device, as well as associated perpetual UAD Native plug-in (UADx) licenses, will be transferred with the hardware to the new owner.

If No is chosen, all plug-in licenses will remain in the seller's account and only the included Analog Classics plug-ins will be issued to the new owner when the hardware is transferred.

I bought a used Apollo or UAD-2 accelerator and I need to register it to my account. How can I register it?

Used hardware can be registered using the hardware serial number. The hardware will remain in a pending state in your account until it is registered by the new owner.

To register used hardware pending transfer, please follow the instructions in this article.

Important Note: Registration works with UAD Software 10.1.1 or later. To register hardware where the software is older than this, please reach out to the Customer Care team.

I'm trying to register Apollo/UAD-2 hardware, but UA Connect does not accept my serial number.

UA Connect is not used for registering Apollo/UAD-2 hardware, and it does not display your UAD DSP plug-ins. UA Connect does not add Apollo or Satellite Hardware.

Use this guide for help with registering an Apollo, UAD-2 Satellite, or UAD-2 PCIe card.

I transferred the device out of my account, but the new owner is having difficulty with registration.

If the device that you are transferring belongs to a System in your account that includes other UAD devices, then all devices in that system must be re-authorized for the transfer to complete.  Note that this only applies when transferring the plug-in library out of your account with the device.

You'll need to connect any UAD-2 hardware belonging to that system (including the hardware that is being transferred) and click the “Authorize Plugins…” button in the Plug-Ins section of UAD Meter & Control Panel.

If you no longer have the hardware that you're transferring, the new owner can complete the authorization for those devices. Once all of the devices have been authorized, the transfer should complete.

I’ve transferred my hardware out of my account. What's next?

Once you've initiated a transfer, you will be congratulated with the message in the image above. The device will remain in your account in a pending state until a new owner has registered the device.

I mistakenly initiated a transfer. How can I cancel it?

To cancel a transfer, please follow the steps in this article.

I’m trying to register a device, but I’m getting stuck at the “Install and restart” step.

If you are stuck in the Install and Restart phase, please follow the instructions in this guide to complete the transfer. You do not need to wait for a browser window to appear after you have installed the UAD software and restarted your computer.

If the UAD software is already installed, then you do not need to restart the computer again.

In essence, to complete the registration, you can click the Authorize Plug-Ins in the UAD Meter and Control Panel application.

I’m having difficulty deactivating my iLok licenses. What should I do?

The iLok user ID associated with your UA Account can be found by clicking the UA Account login name on the top right of the UA Connect application window.

Please launch the iLok License Manager application and then log in with that iLok account username.

If you do not know the password to that iLok account, you can reset your password directly from iLok.com.

Once you are logged in to your iLok account in iLok License Manager, you can individually right-click the licenses and select Deactivate in order to deactivate them from your account.

For more information on this process, read this article.
